vel’oh! 1,000 rentals in 5 days!
(12/06/2008)After vel’oh! launched on 21 March 2008, almost 1,000 rentals were recorded in the first 5 days, which represents an average of 200 movements a day! The success of vel’oh! doesn’t end there. The number of long-term subscribers has exceeded 600 and more than 300 people have taken a short-term subscription in this same period.
For the launch, the 250 vel’oh! met at Place Guillaume II for a parade through the city. After giving starting orders, Paul Helminger, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg, headed up the leading pack accompanied by the aldermen, Claude Wiseler, Minister of Public Works, and other personalities from the city and the country. The leading pack was comprised of numerous members of the “Lëtzebuerger Velos Initiative”, students from the University of Luxembourg and staff members of the municipal authority.
Even before the official launch, vel’oh! of the City of Luxembourg was a huge success. Almost 400 people subscribed to the system before even one of the 250 bicycles was in the streets.
