Infrastructure optimisation
The City of Luxembourg has taken advantage of the three months following the launch of vel’oh! to analyse, in detail, users' expectations as well as the weaknesses of the infrastructure.
Hence, the City will install additional terminals in the most frequently used Upper City's stations, particularly the stations "Theater Plaz", "Robert Schuman", "Amélie" and "Gëlle Fra".
Furthermore, the installation of "cyclodispos" on 30 panels of street furniture will enable users to receive constantly updated information on the number of places and bicycles available in the stations. The information is provided by a digital indication on top of the devices. Finally, users approaching a full station will receive 15 minutes additional time on their card simply by swiping their card in front of the reader of the station in question.
The system's operator has also been able to solve technical problems with the telecommunications operator. Using optimisation techniques, today they can guarantee faultless connection with the central server and, hence, constant accessibility of the stations.
Only three months after the launch of vel’oh!, the city bicycle project can be described as a success: 2,030 annual subscribers have put their trust in the system. On average, the bikes are used 406 times a day with a total of 36,153 uses until today. Compared with cities with the same population as Luxembourg and running a comparable network since September 2007, Luxembourg is one of the most successful cities with 10% additional subscriptions in three months of operating.
